Date: October 12, 2026.

The following in-person workshop will be offered in conjunction with the American Modelica & FMI Conference 2026:

  • Modeling HVAC and Control Systems with the Modelica Buildings Library:

    Time: October 12th, 2026, 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm, Eastern Daylight Time (UTC -4), 3 hours

Location: GA Tech, Atlanta. Room: ASDL Code

Presenter: Ettore Zanetti, David Blum and Michael Wetter, LBNL

Abstract: This workshop introduces modeling for HVAC and control systems for buildings, districts, and data centers using the Modelica Buildings Library. While focused on these applications, the course is structured to benefit modelers of any thermo-fluid system. Following an overview of the library’s scope, we will cover best practices for model configuration and troubleshooting. Through hands-on exercises, participants will develop simple HVAC system models, connect them to thermal loads, and implement feedback control. The instructors will demonstrate using OpenModelica, though participants are welcome to use Modelon Impact or Dassault Systemes’ Dymola.

Expected experience: Have prior knowledge in Modelica. Have basic understanding of the Modelica editors Modelon Impact or OpenModelica OMEdit.

Software requirements: Laptop with recent version of Google Chrome. If you use OpenModelica, install the official or stable release prior to the workshop as described at the OpenModelica download page. Installation of Eclipse is not needed.

Registration information: Go to the American Modelica & FMI Conference website to register for the conference and follow instructions there for adding the workshop.
