Date: October 18, 2023.

The following PhD course will be offered by Aalborg University, Department of the Built Environment:

  • Modelica-based simulation of building and district energy systems:

    Time: October 18, 19 and 20, 9:00-17:00 CEST

Presenter: Alessandro Maccarini (Aalborg University), Michael Wetter (LBNL) and Alireza Afshari (Aalborg University)

Abstract: The course aims to present latest developments in modeling and simulation of building and district energy systems based on the Modelica modeling language. The course is organized in three days. In the first day, the course gives a basic introduction of Modelica fundamentals by introducing object-oriented and equation-based modeling. In the second day, the concepts previously learnt are used to develop a building model equipped with a radiator system and an air-based cooling system. In the third day, a district heating system model will be developed by connecting substations, piping network and central plant.

Expected experience: No previous Modelica experience is needed for this course.

Location: The course will be held physically in Copenhagen at Aalborg University campus (A.C. Meyers Vænge 15, 2450 Copenhagen, Denmark). Online participation may be available with limited teaching assistance.

Software requirements: Prior to the course, it is required to install the latest trial version of Dymola and the Modelica Buildings Library. The instructions to access the non-trial license for the course will be sent by email.
