Date: October 19, 2021.

The following PhD course will be offered by Aalborg University, Department of the Built Environment, Denmark:

  • Object-oriented Modeling and Simulation of Building Energy Systems with Modelica:

    Time: October 19, 20 and 21, 9:00-16:30 CEST

Presenter: Alessandro Maccarini (Aalborg University), Marcus Åberg (Modelon), Michael Wetter (LBNL) and Alireza Afshari (Aalborg University)

Abstract: The course aims to present latest developments in modeling and simulation of HVAC systems based on Modelica modeling language. The course is organized in three modules. In the first module, the course gives a basic introduction of Modelica fundamentals by introducing object-oriented and equation-based modeling. In the second module, the concepts previously learnt will be used for the demonstration of a simulation exercise related to a simple house with a radiator heating system. In the third module, a more advanced simulation exercise will be presented, which includes the modeling and simulation of an air-conditioning system for office buildings connected to renewable energy sources.

Expected experience: No previous Modelica experience is needed for this course.

Location: The course will be held physically in Copenhagen at Aalborg University campus (A.C. Meyers Vænge 15, 2450 Copenhagen, Denmark). Online participation may be available with limited teaching assistance.

Software requirements: Prior to the course, it is required to install Dymola 2022 trial version and the Modelica Buildings Library 8.0.0. The instructions to access the non-trial license for the course will be sent by email.
