Kun Zhang is a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Building Technology and Urban Systems Division, where he conducts research on new generation computing tools for design and operation of building systems, including Model Predictive Control (MPC) methods. His work also includes implementation of the MPC methods and computing tools on real-world projects.

Kun received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Polytechnique Montreal in Canada. His graduate projects focused on modeling, optimization and model predictive control of building energy systems. He has been contributing to the IEA EBC Annex 67 project on "Energy Flexible Buildings", and worked closely with Canadian industry partners on cold climate heat pumps and smart thermostats.

Prior to his graduate study, Kun had three-year working experience in the building industry. He consulted on HVAC system design, LEED and BREEAM compliance, and developed software tools for the U.K. Energy Performance Certificates. He received double degrees (B.Eng. and B.A.) from Chongqing University in China.
